I realize this is late in coming, but I just found this site. I have enjoyed the music of Jimmie Beaumont since I was 9 years old. I played it on a little transistor radio that I carried in my pocket. In later years when married I learned that my best friend/brother in law had Jim's uncle as shop teacher at Bethal Park h.s. please accept my belated condolences, and my prayers are with the family and know that his music will last forever.

Just heard his signature song with the Skyliners tonight on an oldies radio show. I saw Jimmy live a few times at oldies concerts. The one I remember the best was in 1986 in downtown Pittsburgh. I was in a fellowship program at UPSPH (U. of Pittsburgh School of Public Health). That summer I did a clerkship at Alcoa headquarters and attended a free noontime concert nearby. One of the acts was the Skyliners. The people behind me were talking loudly, so I silenced them soundly with a few choice words! R.I.P. Jimmy--we love you!

All this time later, and after his life on earth is done, I'm proud to remember Jimmy, who I knew at Carrick and "around the neighborhood". Many I remember from the music business did not finish as brightly as they had begun their careers, but Jimmy still shines. Peace, to him and to his family, and thank you.

Mr. Beaumont,
We are in the same age bracket I grew up with lived and loved your music but I never knew you. All I knew was your music and that's all I needed to know. I suspect, from reading all the tributes to you, that you were your music and your music was you. Not a bad way at all to define a lifetime.
Those who knew and loved you will surely miss you. Those who didn't know you won't have to miss you as what we knew was your music which will play in perpetuity on the record player, in our minds and in our hearts. You gave us a lifetime of joy Thanks for the memories.

I am a bit late in this condolence messageas I just learned about Jimmy’s passing. Born and raised in western PA I was s big fan of Jimmy B and the Skyliners and had the pleasure of hearing them sing way back when. Fast forward 45 years my friend and I went on the malt Shop Memory Cruise and I was thrilled to hear the Skyliners would be performing. After their fabulous performance I had the pleasure to be introduced to him and the group something I will long remember. A little later in the evening I saw him sitting st the bar alone watching the Last game of the World Series. I wanted to go up and say hello again but didn’t want to disturb him. I am sorry I didn’t.
He will always be remembered and his music will live on.

I just heard the sad news of Jimmy's passing tonight while listening to Cousin Brucie on Sirius XM. Our deepest condolences go out to Jimmy's family and the Skyliner family, for we have truly lost a legend.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy, Nick, Donna and Dick in Las Vegas in 2010. We talked for a few minutes, during which I mentioned that I first heard "SIDHY" at the age of 6 years old, yet, to this day, it is still one of my all-time favorites. Jimmy just chuckled and said, "Well, I was only 18 when I wrote it!"

Thanks again, Jimmy, for all the wonderful music you gave us. It will live on forever.

Jimmy Beaumont brought joy and happiness to Pittsburgh and the
world with his voice, harmonies, and by sharing his God given talent
and love of music with each one of us who grew up with his vocal
sounds. My mind always goes back to the best days of my teenage years by
listening to Jimmy and the Skyliners hits which we danced to at the YWCA
on Saturday nights. It was a great time to be alive. The 50s are still the
best time to grow up and Jimmy definitely made it beautiful for me.
Now, Jimmy is singing with the best band in heaven, no doubt.
My sincere, heartfelt condolences to Jimmy’s widow, children and

It was with deep sadness that I heard of Jimmy's passing. My mind went immediately back to when Jimmy first called me to play guitar and to arrange and conduct for the Skyliners. The big bands were dying out and to be able to continue working with large orchestras was a dream come true. I loved the chemistry between Jimmy, Jan, Wally and Joe. Jimmy was a wonderful song writer and a true perfectionist. One time we had been unable to rehearse before the show with the backup band provided by the promoter. The bass player couldn't read music and simply improvised his part. Jimmy turned around, walked up to the bassist and told him in no uncertain terms that if he played another note, he would throw him off the stage. Jimmy demanded 110 percent which made us all excel. Jimmy's songs helped to make this world a better place and I think that is God's call to all of us. My sympathy goes out to Carol and all the Beaumont family. May God bless you.

I am the lead singer from The Donnybrooks (a vocal quartet) we were on the same record label (Calico records) also had the same music arranger(Lennie Martin) Great memories of Jimmy and the original Skyliners. My Sympathy goes out to his family

Dear Jimmy: God Bless you and your loved ones. You and your music will live in our hearts forever. Your songs became standards from day one. Right now we hurt because we lost you . Gods gift of time takes time to receive. I think God takes his time to give us his gift. He wants to burn your sprit inside of us. But once we receive God Gift of time our pain will ease and we will smile every time we think of you and especially when he hear your music. I just hope that God gives us his gift soon, I want the pain of losing you to go away. God Bless You !

Since I don't have you is my all time favorite, I may have played it more times than the Skyliners sang it.
Rest in peace Jimmy Beaumont

Jimmy had the ability to formulate the most beautiful lyrics with a great orchestral
background. "Since I don't Have You" was and always will be a classic. On top of all that
success, he always gave back to new musicians starting out (like Lou Christie) and never
forgot his roots in Pittsburgh. He was a consummate gentleman and great musician -- and I know of what I speak since I played in local bands for over 20 years. His is a great
loss to Pittsburgh music. God Bless and may he live a happy afterlife. His music surely will.

Soon after the Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper plane crash on February 3, 1959 an eleven year old kid heard "Since I Don’t Have You." From the opening orchestral arrangement, melody, lyrics and most memorably Jimmy’s iconic voice, I was captivated by the recording. Jimmy’s voice and the song conveyed comfort to a young boy trying to understand the “day the music died.” In 1958 I met Gene Vincent (1956 hit Be-Bop-A-Lula) and I became a rock & roller with the goal of buying a Fender Stratocaster guitar, forming a rock band, writing songs and producing hit records --- and going to medical school. Jimmy’s unique voice and his recordings of "Since I Don’t Have You" and "This I Swear" taught an eleven year old kid that rock and roll music can be more than just about Be-Bop-A-Lula.

Jimmy has been and will continue in perpetuity to be part of the DNA of rock and roll. The Skyliners’ "Since I Don’t Have You" and "This I Swear" are part of the Great American Songbook.

A hug to Ann and Jimmy’s family. "Since I Don’t Have You" and "This I Swear" became instant favorites to a young boy; fifty eight years later these song remain my favorites and Jimmy, my buddy, remains alive in my memories. In Jimmy’s words: “…this I swear is true...”

JIMMY BEAUMONT & I
In the nearly 70 years since Rock n’ Roll began, few songs have lasted as long, nor been played as often as ‘Since I Don’t Have You’ by Jimmy Beaumont & The Skyliners. In terms of airplay, in the history of recorded music, Jimmy’s composition and creation stands high among the most played songs ever recorded!
‘Since I Don’t Have You’ will live long past the life of anyone who reads these words. I’ve stated here that I want the song played at my own funeral, I love it so much!
Although the song will be on the radio for another 50 years, no one will again hear it live sung by it’s creator, the man who sung it better than anyone else, and there has been hundreds. Jimmy Beaumont passed away on Saturday, October 7th.
I was privileged to know Jimmy for the last 18 years.
I’d love to tell you the story of how it happened.
I remember exactly where I was standing the very first time I heard the his song. I remember that, though I was walking, I stopped dead as it’s first notes played. I can honestly say the song has pretty much hit me the same way every time I’ve heard it (and that’s a few thousand times!).
The road to knowing Jimmy began about 1999. I read somewhere that Joe VerScharen, The early Skyliners baritone, had retired from the group and was now running his own motel complex near Kitty Hawk, NC. I called the complex’s number and, lucky for me, reached Joe directly. When I expressed my love for The Skyliners, it really warmed Joe, and that evening we began a two hour conversation where he shared all the memories of the group’s career and countless back stories of the famous R & R stars he came to know while performing around the world. I was in heaven hearing his recollections! At the end of our time, he gave me Jimmy’s number and said I should call him also and share my love for the group.
When I did call, Jimmy was out, but a couple days later he called me back.
Quite frankly, I was so thrilled to speak with him after nearly 40 years of hearing his music that I started toying with an idea. Could I book a venue like Mosley’s on the Charles near Boston, put together a R& R show, promo the hell out of it for about 9 months and book Jimmy and the group to headline it. Sadly that did not come to fruition, but I did get to meet Jimmy a few months later in New Jersey when he played a gig at the Flying W Airport. On that beautiful summer afternoon I got to meet Jimmy face to face for the first time plus the entire Skyliners current roster.
So many Rock & Roll groups of my era still exist today though few have their original members. They just ‘use’ the names. They many times fool their audiences by ‘sounding like’ the originals. Herb Reed, founder of The Platters, who I also knew, tried over the years to stop ‘fake groups’.
I assure you there will NEVER BE a Skyliners group performing past this last Saturday.
People in the know have said that Jimmy’s voice, along with Frankie Lymon’s, were probably two of the purest R & R ever heard. I agree!
So thank you Jimmy, for that voice, for that song and for the private time you gave me.
Rest in peace, your song plays on.

Wayne.....I just read your condolences....very touching and heartwarming.....I'm the guy who left that message on Jimmy's website about meeting him in the mid nineties at the Foxwoods Resorts Casino when they appeared there and we met playing poker after the gig.....with the sadness and unhappiness of the moment and the focus being on Jim's legacy and career I didn't feel comfortable talking about my original group who celebrated their 50th anniversary as a quartet, the CARVELLS.....(all 4 members together and occasionally performing) in the Massachusetts area. I'd really like to continue a dialogue with you on any and all things R&B blue-eyed soul and get your input on some things I'm currently working on.....some with other entities as well where I'd like to put together a tribute type of thing for Jimmy's music.
I clicked the box for 'return emails' if you're able to see that, hit me back when and if you can. Also, the CARVELLS website is (thecarvellsonline.com)
I sincerely apologize for any insensitivity in communicating with you this way under these circumstances (I hope Jimmy would understand)....but I didn't know how to reach you directly otherwise...... your words and memories of all things Jimmy Beaumont were very warm and touching, and so apt for the man Jimmy was....and will always be....'HB'

That song gives me goosebumps, though "This I Swear" is my favorite...if there's a Rock and Roll Heaven, well you know they've got one hell of a band. Rest in Peace Jimmy Beaumont. And thank you.

To Mrs. Beaumont, Stacey, & Christina & Family members:

We were extremely saddened to hear the news of the passing of Mr. Jimmy Beaumont. My husband dedicated, "This I Swear" to me some 51 years ago, and it became, "Our Song" from then on. We just celebrated 50 years of marriage in June, and this was the song we danced too. The voice of Jimmy and the Skyliners, will be forever etched in our memories, and in our hearts. We were so thankful to have been able to purchase all of his music and attend several concerts, in our home State of CA, and a very special concert here in Washington State. This music lives on in our hearts and we know that Jimmy has joined the big choir in the sky, we are so thankful to have been a part of his music and life long fans.
We mourn with all of you today, thank you for sharing Jimmy's life with us, his fans. Our love will last..........this we swear to all of you......May God look upon you with peace.....

My heart aches from the passing of such a gentleman. Jimmy's song "Since I Don't Have You" has a special meaning to me and will and always has been my favorite song since 1959. Jimmy's music along with the Skyliners has given so much pleasure to me and his fans. His voice was so beautiful and now he can sing with the Angels and the original Skyliners too. Prayers to Jimmy's Family, Friends and fans all over the world. Rest In Peace Jimmy. You left us your music to comfort us. Cheryl Bowers.
