Walter Sowa

Walter L. Sowa, age 92 of White Oak, passed peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Anne Home in Greensburg. Born December 1, 1923 in White Oak, he was the son of the late Gregory and Julia (Rybka) Sowa, and loving husband of the late Betty J. (Heveker) Sowa for 50 years. Walter was an Army Air Borne Veteran, and following his military service he went on to work as a millwright for National Tube, having retired after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi Church, formerly St. Mary Czestochowa Church and was also a member of the White Oak American Legion and the Polish Club. In his free time, he loved to go hunting and fishing, and always looked forward to spending time at his cabin at Cranberry Lake with his family, friends, and his faithful hunting beagles. His active way of life, even in his 90's was admired by many. He is survived by his children, Walter G. (Laura) Sowa of Irwin and Bonnie (Greg) Kelly of Ellicott City, MD; grandchildren, Mark Kelly of Albuquerque, NM and Emily (Noah) Adler of Portland, OR; great-granddaughter, Violet Elizabeth Adler; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John Sowa, Josephine Heveker, Frank Sowa and Leona Pearson. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 28, 2016 at Corpus Christi Church at 10 a.m. Father Steven Palsa will officiate.
