Dorothy Matta Obituary

Dorothy Louise Matta, age 97, died Monday, February 12, 2024, at her home in North Huntingdon Twp.  Born on July 30, 1926, in Duquesne, PA., she was the daughter of the late Michael M. and Anna Breza Miller and for 73 years was the wife of Charles E. Matta, who died in 2020.
Known as "Dot" to her family and friends, she graduated from Duquesne High School and went to work for the U.S. Navy.  As World War II ended and servicemen began to return and reclaim their jobs, she moved to U.S. Steel Homestead Works, where she eventually became a confidential secretary, staying until her retirement.
Dorothy was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in McKeesport, where she and her husband enjoyed making bread and pyrohy for church sales.
She is survived by nieces, Karen Miller Kost of White Oak and Barbara Paone of Colonia, NJ; nephews, James R. Miller (Kathleen) of White Oak and John Miller (Joanne) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; great-nieces, Cassidy A. Gerstner of White Oak and Heidi Carroll of Hurricane, WV; great-nephews, Jesse J. Miller of Glenside, PA, Giancarlo Paone, Ronald G. Pullen, Jr., of Barboursville, WV, Jeffrey Price of Firestone, CO., and Justin, Jeff and John Miller and also numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
Her last years were made happier and easier by her devoted caregivers, Ronda Frederick and Jessica Gosnell.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a niece, Donna McGuire, and nephew, Gary Miller; sisters, Gertrude Mann and Alberta Miller; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert (Bernadette), Robert (Ethel) and George (Betty) Miller.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m.  The burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.
