John Hanko Obituary

John E. Hanko, age 88, of North Versailles, formerly of McKeesport, died February 5, 2019, at John J. Kane Regional of McKeesport. Born August 8, 1930, in Monessen, he was the son of the late John E. and Eleanor (Sant) Hanko and the husband of Shirley (Flading) Hanko for over 66 years. John retired from Fisher Body Division of General Motors Corp., where he was a tool maker in the tool and die department. He belonged to the Over the Hill Gang at Fisher Body. John was a US Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War, on the USS Philippine Sea Aircraft Carrier. He was a member of St. Angela Merici Church of White Oak and past member of the former St. Angela Keener Citizens. He was also a member of AARP No. 2294 of White Oak and American Legion Post #701. John was past Treasurer of the MYARC, Mon Yough Adult Retarded Center, and managed the bowling league for over 20 years. He enjoyed traveling with his Navy Reunion Group, along with his beloved wife and daughter. John's greatest joy was spending time his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Paul (Melissa) Hanko of York, PA and James (Lois) Hanko of Redwood City, CA; grandchildren, Karlene (Hector Soriano) Hanko, Olivia (Roy) Brown, Suzanne Hanko, Karen (Matthew Deleon-Randolph) Hanko; great grandchildren, Joshua Hanko and Benjamin Hanko; siblings, William (Olga) Hanko of Irvine, CA, Beverly Hoffman of Rilton, PA and Renee (Rand) Hudson of North Irwin; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Cheryl Hanko; grandson, Kristopher. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, February 10, 2019, from Noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 10 a.m., at St. Angela Merici Church.
