John J. Tapocik

John J. Tapocik, 86, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family Monday, May 21, 2018 at 8:00 pm in Franciscan Health - Michigan City.

He was born May 21, 1932 in Mingo Junction, Ohio to the late John and Virginia (Kish) Tapocik. On May 18, 1957 he married the love of his life, Jean Clayton, who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are his daughters, Kathleen (Shaun) Fowler of Logansport, IN, Bonnie Kmiecik of Trail Creek, IN and Susan (Dion) Paholski of Michigan City, IN; grandchildren, Stacy Robinson of Chicago, IL, Carrie (Aaron) Griffin of Michigan City, IN, Ashley (Jeff) Jehl of Fort Wayne, IN, Tom Kutch of Logansport, IN, Austin Paholski of Chicago, IL: and Abigail Paholski of Michigan City, IN; three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Willow and Daniel Griffin, all of Michigan City, IN; sister, Virginia (Jerry) Holmes of PA; and brother, Edward Tapocik of PA.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann and brother, Thomas Tapocik.

John honorably served his country in the United State Army. John worked at U.S.S. Irvin Works in West Mifflin, PA and then moved to Michigan City to start up Midwest Steel. He retired with 46 years in the Mills. He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moose Family Center 980, John Franklin Miller American Legion Post 37 and the Knights of Columbus Council 1542. John was an avid Cubs, Notre Dame, Pirates and Steelers fan. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. His family meant the world to him. John will be dearly missed and remembered for his strength and incredible determination to live.

Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral home & Crematory on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 10 a.m., for a blessing service in the funeral home chapel. Fr. Vincent Velas will officiate. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph's Cemetery.
