Irene R. Somales

Irene R. Somales, age 98, of Elizabeth Twp., formerly of Homestead, died July 17, 2020, at Manor Care of Bethel Park. Born January 1, 1922, in Homestead, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Evangelia (Seftalis) Somales.
Irene was a retired elementary school teacher and taught in the Fox Chapel and Rankin School Districts. She was a graduate of the California University of Pennsylvania. Irene was an active member of the Presentation of Christ Greek Orthodox Church of East Pittsburgh, where she took part in various church activities. She always looked forward to running the book store at the yearly Food Festival. She enjoyed preparing all her favorite Greek dishes and desserts for her family and especially loved preparing for her favorite holiday, Greek Easter. Irene found peace in traveling to her parents' birthplace in Greece, where she also picked the finest materials for her needlepoint creations.  
Irene is survived by her nephew, Nelson (Nanci) Wilburn of Port Vue, PA; niece, Sandra (Val) Petersen of St. George, UT; several Godchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Ignatius "John" Somales; sisters, Helen Flizanes and Mary Katsilas.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of blessing service at 11:30 a.m., in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
